weekday sewing days
Come and join our lovely weekday sewing workshops, on various dates throughout the year – weekdays, usually Wednesdays and or Thursdays.
these workshops are designed for students with some garment making experience, who have already learnt sewing machine basics and perhaps made their first garment.
students work on their own making project, receiving professional tuition in fitting, construction and finishing.
The wednesday sewing days started in November 2022. Thursday Sewing days began in september 2023. . .
10am - 3pm £55 per day – Art House, South Brent, devon
Parking available in the Community Centre Car Park.
The format of a five hour day of sewing has proved a successful way of providing each student with good amounts of individual tuition during the workshop day. this makes for a productive time, good progress with your making projects and plenty of inspiration and knowledge gained from other students project work!. . .
enjoy teas, coffees and biscuit breaks during the day and Bring a packed lunch.
The workroom is light and spacious. It provides a hip height work counter, long enough for 3 people to be cutting out or making patterns at the same time, as well as enough sewing tables to provide five fully EQUIPPED good sized sewing stations.
you will find this a friendly social learning space. It’s a place to challenge your skills and learn new techniques.
learn about the cloth you are working with, how to match it to a suitable making project and the style of clothes you would like to make and wear.
Machines and equipment are provided. . .
You are welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if you would like to get to know it better. There are three high quality machines available for those who don’t have a machine of their own. There’s also a high quality overlocker with automatic threading and tensioning. An overlocker is for professional seam and hem finishing or for making a garment from a stretch jersey knit. students are also shown how to professionally finish raw seam edges without an overlocker.

machine sewing introductory workshops
new for 2026 – how to use a sewing machine and create your own sewing journal of stitch types, seam samples and construction techniques. you’ll learn the foundation skills needed for your future garment making projects and learn the craft through creating a sewing journal. this workshop is dedicated to the essential piece of learning that will ease your journey into a two day garment making course. An ideal workshop if you have a machine, but don’t know how to set it up, or how to sew good seams, what all the different stitches are and when to use them. making a sewing journal is a great practice, not only to record your jouney, but as a great resource to refer to.

Saturday two day sewing courses are continuing for 2026. These are Designed for students wanting to learn excellent garment construction techniques as a group all learning the same making project together. The courses are designed for beginners who have some experience of sewing machine basics. right from the start, you will make fabulous garments that you’ll love to wear. It’s not just about how to sew, it’s also learning about garment design, fitting, and choosing the right cloth for a project.
LEARN HOW TO MAKE beautifully finished CLOTHEs
Although these are beginner workshops you will also gain insights on design manipulation, the process of making a pattern as well as simple adjustments for fit. whatever your interest in garment making is, you will discover ways you can extend your learning as you become more confident and accomplished in your making skills.
