individual project making sewing days

Come and join our lovely weekday sewing workshops, on various dates throughout the year – various weekdays, usually Thursdays.

these workshops are designed for students with some garment making experience, who have already learnt sewing machine basics and perhaps made their first garment.

students work on their own individual making project, receiving professional tuition in fitting, construction and finishing.

The wednesday sewing days started in November 2022. Thursday Sewing days began in september 2023. . .

10am - 3pm Art House, South Brent, devon

Parking available in the Community Centre Car Park.

The format of a five hour workshop has proved a successful way of providing each student with good amounts of individual tuition during the workshop day. this makes for a productive time, good progress with your making projects and plenty of inspiration and knowledge to provide you with homework!. . .

enjoy teas, coffees and biscuit breaks during the day and Bring a packed lunch.

The workroom is light and spacious. It provides a hip height work counter, long enough for 3 people to be cutting out or making patterns at the same time, as well as enough sewing tables to provide five fully EQUIPPED good sized sewing stations.

you will find this a friendly social learning space. It’s a place to challenge your skills and learn new techniques.

learn about the cloth you are working with, how to match it to a suitable making project and the style of clothes you would like to make and wear.

Machines and equipment are provided. . .

You are welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if you would like to get to know it better. There are three high quality machines available for those who don’t have a machine of their own. There’s also a high quality overlocker with automatic threading and tensioning. one & two day sewing Project masterclasses for beginners

New for 2025 is an exciting ‘Design & Make’ teaching innovation in beginner level courses. These are held on Saturdays. Designed for students wanting to learn garment construction and be part of a group, learning the same making project all together. These courses are designed for beginners who have some experience of sewing machine basics – even if it was from school, many years ago. In these courses you will refresh your skills and become confident at making, learning more about garment design, fitting, choosing the right cloth for a project and ending up with a beautifully made garment.

Although these are beginner workshops you will also learn (beginner basics level) the process of making a pattern from a ready traced template and how to adjust your pattern for length and width of garment at hem, and length and style of sleeves / legs – straight or bell shaped, using basic easy pattern adjustment techniques.
