‘Design & Make’ tuition

learn how to design, cut patterns and construct garments

From scratch – Novice to advanced levels

imagine learning how to sew and make your own clothes

student directed projects are facilitated via private tuition. this is best initiated by arranging a free 1 hour CONSULTATION.

these workshops are run from my personal workroom at brewhouse, Royal William Yard, Plymouth, devon.

All equipment is provided, including high quality Bernina sewing machines and Babylock overlocker for professional finishing.

One-to-one tuition @ £75 for a 3 hour session or for two people (bring a friend or your daughter / son) for £40 each.

design & make tuition is a great way of creating your own learning journey. workshops can be arranged at a time that is convenient to you and booked as one off sessions as and when needed, or create a course of regular sessions to achieve a specific goal. this might be launching into a making project for the first time, or tackling a really tricky part of an existing sewing project.

Your project might have a focus on pattern fitting alterations and an exploration of the design archetypes that flatter your body shape. You may wish to get to grips with pattern manipulation by creating your own designs from professional contemporary template blocks. This could be working with a shirt block, a shirt-dress block, an a-line skirt, pull-on trousers, a japanese apron, or creating your own specific jacket and coat blocks. You may have a goal to build a portfolio of work in connection with a career transition, or create a professional pattern for an artisan garment making business.
